In addition to these variations in demographics, Americans are facing significant socio-cultural and economic changes as well.  Our schools are equipped with metal detectors and on August 16, 2008, the school district of Harrold, Texas decided that teachers and staff can carry concealed firearms into the classroom. Fuel costs have escalated 250% in the last 8 years with promises of more increases to come. Incomes have stagnated, jobs are disappearing overseas, disposable incomes are shrinking, and mortgage foreclosures continue to rise.

About The Book

Concerns about health care and financial instability are significant stressors for most Americans. Add to this environmental, foreign oil dependency and foreign policy concerns and you have a population with plenty to worry about.

The Republican Party Texas Senator, Phil Gramm, tells us that “we’ve become a nation of whiners”, and as a result we are in a mental recession.  Thousands of lives and five years after George W. Bush declared ‘Mission Accomplished’ in Iraq, the cost of the war is now 12 million dollars per hour.  No weapons of mass destruction were ever found and recent evidence supports that we knew this. As the Republicans remain in denial of the voices of Americans, we ask ourselves, “can our nation survive another eight years of this?” The answer is a deafening, “NO”.

In the absence of a viable platform promoting effective change, the Republican Party resorted to what appears the only strategy they know– diverting the voter from any discussion of substance while creating suspicion of the opponent.  And why not?  It worked for George Bush.  In 2003 he had most of Americans believing that there was a terrorist lurking on every corner. To change leadership would ensure certain attack and so for the sake of homeland security, in fear, his re-election was secured.  Instead of a campaign based on real solutions for real problems, we observed a Republic campaign strategy of smear and fear. John Kerry’s campaign was damaged when Unfit for Command, co-authored by Jerome Corsi, attacked Kerry’s war record.  Now Corsi has authored another book of the smear and fear genre, this time attacking Barack Obama. While McCain strongly spoke out against the attacks on Kerry, this time he had no comment.

We knew it was coming. The attack on Barack Obama has been on-going and continues as he makes his cabinet and staff positions. The Republicans have yet to figure out that we are on to them. The game is up. You would think that by now they would have asked themselves, ‘what is it about Barack Obama that has aroused the passions of millions of supporters, not only in the USA but worldwide as well?”  While Republican leaders are top experts in generating fear and suspicion, Obama has presented himself as a leader able to involve millions of people by generating the hope of a new kind of politics and a vision of positive change.

So just how did Barack Obama, a junior senator, become the nominee of the Democratic Party? How has Barack Obama amassed two million financial donors, raising more than 605 million dollars? What is it that Barack Obama knows, that the Republicans have yet to discover? He understands that while the negativity of smear and fear has its initial impact, what really moves most of us is a desire to feel good about our circumstances, our futures, our communities, and most importantly, ourselves. He understands the difference between inspiration and motivation. Understanding this difference is what moves ordinary people from complacency to positive action. Positive action, originating in positive energy is what yields positive results.

In the future, Obama will be studied as one of the greatest leaders of modern times.  Obama doesn’t call forth volunteers– he calls forth the leader that resides in all of us. He demands personal accountability—and gets it willingly. He has created an army of grassroots volunteers that are not only contributing financial resources but hours of service in any number of tasks. He has tapped into the spirit of first-time voters and re-kindled the spirits of baby boomers, long searching for a return of the days of JFK, MLK and Bobby.

This book describes the key components of Obama’s leadership style as a powerful agent of positive change.
